CONFERENCE: The Global Bard in Asia: Teaching Shakespeare
The organizing committee of the 2024 ELLAK International Conference invites submissions for the special session titled The Global Bard in Asia: Teaching Shakespeare. The conference will be held at Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, on December 12-14, 2024, under the theme of “Rethinking the Global English Studies.”
We invite proposals for our panel that offer practical and creative insights into teaching Shakespeare in Asia. Our panel aims to foster a vibrant exchange of ideas and resources, bringing together a diverse community of scholars and educators to discuss the global role of Shakespeare. Join us in this enlightening panel as we unite the past, present, and future of Shakespearean pedagogy, all within the framework of “Rethinking the Global in English Studies.” Your participation will contribute to the global discourse on Shakespearean literature and teaching methodologies.
This event will address various aspects of teaching Shakespeare in Asia, including but not limited to:
Teaching Shakespeare in interdisciplinary contexts, such as Asian literature history, or politics
Rethinking Shakespeare in Classrooms
Teaching Shakespeare in the context of global literature
Adapting and Performing Shakespeare in Classrooms
Incorporating multimedia materials in teaching Shakespeare
The impact of technology and online platforms
Examining the relationship between performance and pedagogy in Asian classrooms
A limited number of travel awards (covering the registration fee and hotel expenses) are available for international participants in special sessions.
