Elle Catherine Donnelly is a third-year English Literature student at the University of Liverpool. She has studied at the University of Exeter (2018-19) and Vassar College (2019-20), focusing on modules surrounding Renaissance and Medieval literature. Her research interests lie in the relationships between nature and people in Early Modern literature, and how bodies are described as transported and conquered, be they elemental, inanimate or human. She is currently conducting research in how bodies of water are used to express feeling in the Renaissance period, looking at the evolution of water as a metaphor for colonised peoples and the tumultuous journeys of this time. Particularly looking at canonical European works in this period, Elle is looking to expand on existing discourse as to why poetic references to nature could shift our perception of assimilation and culture in Early Modern England.
