American University - Bulgaria - Assistant Professor of History, Ottoman/Eastern Mediterranean

The Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track position specializing in Southeast Europe, the Middle East, or the Eastern Mediterranean, with a preference for Ottoman studies or Ottoman history, religious studies, environmental history, institutional history, transnational history, or the history of science, broadly defined. Candidates will have the opportunity to teach both survey and topics courses in the history of Southeast Europe, the Middle East, and/or the Eastern Mediterranean. They will have the opportunity to develop courses within their area of expertise.

As a full-time faculty member, the successful candidate will teach a minimum of three courses per semester, participate in university and departmental service, and publish in their area(s) of specialization.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • A Ph.D. in History to be completed by August 31, 2026;

  • Research publications commensurate with their rank and experience;

  • Experience teaching college-level courses in English;

  • Experience teaching in a liberal arts environment or willingness to adapt to the American liberal arts style of teaching;

  • A collegial and collaborative attitude.

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in teaching undergraduate courses.

Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate how their teaching and scholarship will advance AUBG’s mission as a liberal arts institution dedicated to promoting democratic ideals in Eastern Europe.
