
Assistant Director Ottoman/Contemporary Türkiye, British Institute at Ankara
Applications are invited from scholars working on Ottoman or Republican/Contemporary Turkey within any of the academic disciplines of the arts, humanities and social sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct primary research in their discipline.
The British Institute at Ankara supports, promotes and publishes British research focused on Turkey and countries around the Black Sea in all academic disciplines within the arts, humanities and social sciences, and maintains a research centre in Ankara including a unique research library, special collections and lecture facilities.
The Assistant Director's official responsibilities include
The management and facilitation of the BIAA research programme related to Ottoman, Republican and Contemporary Turkey
Organization of public events and outreach activities in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Management Assistant Director,
Managing the library staff and the daily running of the library,
Contributing to the Institute’s regular reporting to the British Academy, and
Assisting in the work of some of the Insitute’s governing committees.
The Assistant Director also collaborates with the BIAA IT Manager to further develop BIAA’s IT development and digital framework.
The Assistant Director is required to be resident in Ankara, and is responsible to the Director in Ankara. In addition to the Director and Cultural Heritage Management Assistant Director, the local staff includes experienced administrative and library/archive personnel, post-doctoral fellows and other researchers based at the BIAA.
