Assistant Professorship in Early Medieval Literatures and Cultures, Fordham University

The English Department at Fordham University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Early Medieval Literatures and Cultures to be based at Fordham’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx and to begin in Fall 2026. Applicants should be teacher-scholars who specialize in the literatures of early medieval England (500-1100 C.E) and whose research and teaching integrate the study of race, racism, and racialism in the premodern era. Candidates who situate their work in the context of the Global North, Global South, Mediterranean, Africa, or Turtle Island are especially invited to apply. Further theoretical orientations could include but are not limited to disability studies, ecocriticism, empire, gender and sexuality, and Indigenous studies.

Successful candidates will teach introductory literature courses in the University’s core curriculum, as well as specialized courses and seminars for the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. This teaching will contribute to our undergraduate Race and Social Justice and graduate Difference and Intersectionality course offerings. Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach Old English language and literature at the introductory and graduate levels. They will also be responsible for teaching History of the English Language and will be expected to supervise dissertations in early medieval English. Teaching ability in additional early languages is also welcomed. Teaching load is 2/3; starting base salary is $95,000-$105,000, with generous benefits.
