
Bates College, Visiting Assistant Professor of History
The Bates College Department of History and Africana Program invite applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of History with a specialization in nineteenth-century U.S. and African-American history beginning August 1, 2024. The successful candidate will teach five courses per year and advise senior theses. Courses include a survey course (Rise of the American Empire) as well as an upper-level seminar and three mid-level courses related to the candidate’s areas of expertise that complement the existing curricular strengths of the college. Each year at least three of these courses will be cross-listed with the Africana Program.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching as well as demonstrated success or potential for working with underrepresented, first generation, and marginalized student populations. The search committee expects applicants to identify their strengths and experiences in these areas and describe how their teaching can further this goal.
