Early Career Researcher in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, University of London

10 February 2023

The Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies (ILCS) is recruiting for an 18-month post of Early Career Researcher in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The postholder will work as part of the Institute to produce and disseminate research in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and to facilitate and promote the production of research by other academic colleagues within the Humanities. They will be required to make an active contribution to the academic objectives of ILCS and CLACS.

As an academic staff member of the School of Advanced Study they will be capable of contributing to the School’s programme of academic and research training events such as conferences, seminars, lectures, postgraduate programmes, and publications, and contribute to the development of further relevant activities.

The Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies

The Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies (ILCS) supports research in the integrated study of languages, cultures, and societies. Though its strengths reside primarily within the fields of French and Francophone, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American/Caribbean studies, it supports the transnational study of languages and cultures while seeking to advance connections with organisations that focus on cultural and linguistic experience in other global contexts. Its staff’s expertise bridges literary, historical, ethnographic, and digital research, with a particular emphasis on postcolonial and migration studies, and the environmental humanities.

The Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) was established in April 2021 as a centre within ILCS, continuing the activity of the former Institute of Latin American Studies. CLACS is an interdisciplinary centre committed to serve and facilitate the work of the Latin American Studies community in the UK and worldwide. The Centre supports scholarship across a wide range of subject fields in the humanities and cognate social sciences and actively maintains and builds ties with cultural, diplomatic and business organisations with interests in Latin America.

Along with seven other discipline-specific research institutes and specialist hubs for Digital Humanities and Public Engagement, ILCS forms part of the School of Advanced Study.

Application Deadline: 08 March 2023
