External Examiner for The Institute of Ismaili Studies
The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) was established in 1977 to promote scholarship and learning about Muslim societies and to encourage a better understanding of their relationships with other cultures and faiths. Its research, publications and educational programmes promote scholarship in previously marginalised areas of the study of Islam. These include the intellectual and literary heritages of Shia Islam, with an emphasis on Ismaili traditions. IIS’ programmes focus on multiple approaches, expressions and interpretations, giving it a reputation for openness and tolerance.
The IIS currently runs two post-graduate programmes, the Graduate Programme in Islamic Studies and Humanities (GPISH) and the Secondary Teacher Education Programme STEP). As part of its commitment to assuring standards and enhancing the quality of student experience, it aims to appoint an external examiner for these programmes.
To this end, the IIS is pleased to invite expressions of interest from experienced academics for the role of External Examiner in the field of Islamic Studies and Humanities (a full list of modules offered on the programme can be made available to interested candidates). The IIS is aware that the disciplinary areas covered by the programme are diverse and are open to the idea of appointing two examiners; one who specialising in textual scholarship in the field of Ismaili Studies and one who specialises in the social sciences and the study of contemporary Muslim Societies.
