Fixed-Term Stipendiary Lecturership in History, Wadham College

Wadham College invites applications for a part-time Stipendiary Lecturer in History from 1st October 2023 to 30th September 2024. This is a fixed term contract. The lecturer will be required to give on average eight hours per week of tutorials for Wadham College during the eight-week term, and to be available during both term and for some periods of the students’ vacation to offer organisational, pastoral, and admissions support.

Together with the College’s other tutors in History, the lecturer will be expected to share pastoral and organisational responsibility for Wadham students reading History and affiliated joint schools. Key duties include arranging teaching, pastoral care of undergraduate students, setting and marking collections (termly college examinations), attending Tutorial Board meetings, and overseeing the College’s undergraduate admissions exercise in History (for which training is provided).

The lecturer will be expected to take responsibility for teaching History of the British Isles 4: 1500-1700, European and World History 3: 1400-1650 and Approaches to History for the Preliminary Examination; and Disciplines of History for Finals. The ability to offer a Prelims Optional Subject and/or a Finals Further Subject would be desirable. The lecturer will be expected to help support students doing theses or interdisciplinary essays in relevant areas, and to help with revision and exam preparation.

It is expected that the successful candidate will have, or be close to completing, a doctorate, and must have proven teaching experience in the subject range to be covered.
