Lecturer in Art History at Newcastle University

2 October 2020

We wish to appoint a Lecturer in Art History to teach into the well-established Fine Art undergraduate programme at Newcastle University. Based in Fine Art, which is part of the School of Arts and Cultures, your primary role will be to contribute to the delivery, development and administration of Art History modules on the Fine Art BA undergraduate course. You will also make a contribution to our MFA and PGR teaching. You should be responsive to the particular nature of teaching art history to students specialising in the practice of Fine Art.

We are looking for someone who can build on and help expand our current teaching provision and our research environment. We have existing strengths in painting in the USA post-1945, art-science relations and the medical humanities, socially-engaged art practices, and queer art histories.

We actively encourage applications from those working on global art histories - for example, histories of art from the African continent, South and East Asia, Central and South America and their diasporas - and at the intersections of art history and feminism, critical race studies, and/or decolonial thought. We are looking for an art historian who is passionate about their specialist area of research, and would also enjoy working collaboratively to contribute to broader team-taught modules and dissertation supervision. You should be responsive to the particular nature of teaching art history to students specialising in the practice of Fine Art. We are looking for an innovative and inclusive approach to the teaching of art history, and you should be able to demonstrate an awareness of contemporary critical issues in the field globally. You must evidence a commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and widening participation in teaching, research, and university life.
