Lecturer in Digital Humanities at the University of Sheffield
Established in the early 1990s, the Digital Humanities Institute (DHI) is located in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and is one of the UK’s leading centres for Digital Humanities. It provides technology research, computational research and online publishing for over 100 humanities research projects at more than 120 universities and organisations in the UK and internationally. Our team of research software engineers work with academics and non-academics on collaborative, multi-stakeholder projects in which the principal deliverables are online resources or software, which the DHI will then maintain and keep publicly accessible over the long term.
The DHI intends to build on its reputation and expertise by delivering new postgraduate taught programmes: the MA in Digital Culture and Communication which explores the ways in which digital technologies are transforming human experience and artistic and humanistic practices; and the MA in Cultural Data Management and Communication which develops and deepens understanding of the principles and methods of managing, analysing and communicating different types of cultural data. As such, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Digital Humanities.
We welcome applications from ambitious, highly motivated and talented individuals who will be keen to play an active role in maintaining and enhancing the reputation of the DHI for high quality research, teaching excellence and innovation.
Candidates will have a PhD in an arts and humanities subject (or a related subject area) and will have research and/or teaching interests and expertise in digital humanities or related areas (e.g., digital history, computational linguistics, digital media, digital editions and archives, online publishing, cultural analytics, text mining). You will have a proven teaching ability and administrative skills, with a strong research track record of high-quality publications and other forms of innovation at an international level and evidence of external funding capture.
You will have an understanding of leadership in an academic environment and a desire to engage and develop your own leadership abilities, contributing to the collective enhancement of the Institute. You will be culturally agile with a global mind-set, actively support the values of diversity and collegiality and seek to work across boundaries. You will be an engaged team member who is attentive to detail but at the same time flexible and responsive to changes in the external environment.
