Lecturer in Early Modern History (Early Career), The Open University
This is an exciting opportunity to join The Open University as a Lecturer in Early Modern History. You will play a key role in supporting, developing and expanding our current and future early modern curriculum. Over time, you will contribute to some combination of our British, European and Global history modules, our interdisciplinary modules, and our postgraduate teaching.
Candidates must have a research specialism in early modern history (c.1500-c.1800) which does not focus, exclusively, on early modern Britain and Ireland. We are especially interested in applications from candidates working on European history, ideally with a focus on its global interconnections. We also particularly welcome applications from those with a research specialism which relates to one of our interdisciplinary research centres (namely the Ferguson Centre for African and Asian Studies and the Centre for the History of Crime, Policing and Justice).
The successful postholder will be required to prepare distance learning materials, contribute to the presentation of modules, and contribute to our research culture and REF preparations. Scholarship and public engagement may also form part of the postholder’s duties, depending on experience and inclination.
You can live anywhere in the United Kingdom, but the role is based at the Open University’s Milton Keynes campus and involves attendance there at academic community and module team meetings.
This is an ideal first academic post for someone looking to pursue a career in teaching and research, so we especially welcome applications from candidates who have recently successfully defended their PhD, or who have not held substantive academic posts since completing their doctorate.
Application Deadline: 9 September 2022
