Lecturer in Early Modern Literature (Academic Education Pathway), King's College London

The Department of English wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Early- Modern Literature (Academic Education Pathway) for a fixed-term period of 18 months to replace Professor Gordon McMullan who will be taking a period of research leave. The appointment will run from 1 January 2022. The successful candidate will have a strong record in teaching and scholarship to complement our current strengths in the field. They will be able to teach on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules. In Semester 2 of 2021/22 this will include: 4AAEA005 Early Modern Literary Culture (1st year UG), 5AAEB066 The Poetry of Revolution (2nd year UG) and 7AAEM220 Theatre, Gender and Culture in Jacobean London (MA). The postholder will also contribute to the pastoral care of students as a personal tutor and will supervise undergraduate and MA dissertations. They will be responsible to the Head of Department.

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 18 months. This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate in the planning, organisation and delivery of teaching activities within the department

  • Serve as module convenor for undergraduate and MA modules.

  • Act as personal tutor to students as agreed with the Head of Department and assist with difficulties, e.g. learning support/problems.

  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. ·

  • Participate fully in assessment and examination processes as appropriate using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their leaning. ·

  • Contribute to the administration of the Department

  • Engage in professional development as appropriate.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Department.
