English Literature sits within the School of Culture & Communication which is part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Our Faculty is home to a welcoming and inclusive community that pursues scholarship, research and innovation that benefits society, and which promotes a student experience that enables our students to become highly skilled, socially aware global citizens. As a subject area our courses cover the entire range of English literature, from the early-Medieval period to the present day, while also developing knowledge of critical theory and the diversity of approaches to literature. We are looking for an inspirational team-player who can contribute to the University and subject area’s ambitions to be at the forefront of traditional and digitally-enhanced learning, helping to build on our excellent student experience record.
The subject area of English Literature and Creative Writing wishes to employ a Lecturer in English Literature for a fixed-term period of 12 months. The appointment will provide cover for a member of staff on externally funded research leave and will run from 1 September 2022. The successful candidate will have a strong teaching and research record in Shakespeare studies. The ability to teach stage and screen Shakespeare would be an advantage. They will teach the first-year undergraduate module on theatre and drama and the second-year Shakespeare module and will undertake other teaching duties at the instruction of the Head of Department, including some postgraduate teaching. They will contribute to the pastoral care of students as an academic mentor and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. They will be encouraged to play a part in the intellectual life of the department.
