Lecturer in Global Histories at Bath Spa University

1 April 2022

Bath Spa University seeks to employ a lecturer in global histories.

You will bring your expertise from a wide range of specialist fields – the history of empires and colonialism or migration history, for example, and of specific geographic regions – to the development of global perspectives across our programmes, informing and shaping our work in more domestic contexts, public history and the value of historical understanding in the contemporary world. You will also be expected to contribute to the teaching of Politics and International Relations.

We have recently completed a major review of all our courses in the Humanities, to enable us to offer an applied, socially engaged, and increasingly responsive curriculum. We have a strong focus on interdisciplinarity, the integration of professional practice and professional skills within all our teaching, and an explicit commitment to demonstrating the value of the Humanities inside and outside the University.

We are now looking to appoint two posts within the History team (a Lecturer in Global Histories and a Lecturer in Environmental History) to contribute to our wider Humanities teaching and to the further development of the subject in its own right. We are a small team, with specialist interests in early modern and modern British history, the history of popular cultures, and public history in a variety of forms. We work increasingly closely with colleagues in Politics and International Relations, Environmental Humanities, Publishing, Creative Writing and Journalism, all of which might draw on historical content and approaches.

Application Deadline: 25 April 2022
