
Lecturer in Postcolonial and World Literature, Queen Mary University of London
The Department of English in the School of English and Drama in Queen Mary’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint a full-time (1.0fte) Lecturer in Global and Postcolonial Literature, with expertise in Anglophone African literatures in the modern/contemporary period. We are especially interested in applicants whose work brings new perspectives to the field, including in gender and sexuality, disability, environmental humanities, popular cultures or book history. The successful applicant will be able to contribute to the development and delivery of team teaching in Postcolonial and Global Literature, be able to teach canonical and non-canonical materials and be able to demonstrate that they have an innovative attitude towards the current state of literary studies. Modules to be taught in the first year may include: ‘London Global’ (level 4) and ‘Postcolonial and Global Literatures’ (level 5).
About You
The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in English, or a related field, and must have a growing or established research profile and substantial plans for future research. They will join a department committed to an interdisciplinary approach to literary studies, and with significant expertise in Global and Postcolonial literature/studies. Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in large and small group settings is an essential requirement. The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time and permanent with an expected start date of 1 September 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 5, £44,931 - £47,414, inclusive of London Allowance. Interviews are expected to to be held shortly after the application deadline.
