Lecturer in Premodern Japanese Studies at The University of Edinburgh - Department of Asian Studies.

The University of Edinburgh’s Department of Asian Studies are looking for a full time lecturer who has expertise in premodern Japan. Applications are invited from scholars with research interests and teaching experience in any discipline of Japanese Studies to 1600.

The University of Edinburgh’s Department of Asian Studies is one of the top programmes in the UK for the study of East Asia. Japanese Studies enjoys high levels of student satisfaction, so it is expected that the candidate demonstrates excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, as well as support for supervision at the post-graduate level. Edinburgh has also become an innovator in comparative and transnational East Asian Studies, so expertise in a second subject area (Chinese or Korean) is highly desirable.

Person Specification:

- A PhD in a relevant field, including research in Japanese Studies to 1600.

- Fluency in Japanese (including premodern) and English.

- Innovative teaching on Japanese Studies to 1600 (including online or hybrid delivery).

- Evidence of contributions to future REF submissions, including grant-writing.

- Significant research experience abroad in Japan.
