Lecturer in Renaissance and Early Modern Literature, University of York

The Department of English and Related Literature seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Early Modern Literature. This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months. We seek candidates with expertise in global or comparative approaches, race and ethnicity, decolonisation, and/or Critical Race Theory. The successful candidate will teach students on four undergraduate modules: The Renaissance, Shock of the New: Medieval Literature, Spices and Spies: Renaissance Global Travel and Approaches to Literature II: Other Worlds (early modern and medieval). They will contribute a small number of seminars to our prestigious MA in Renaissance Literature and our innovative undergraduate option ‘Researching the Renaissance’.

The successful candidate will have an exciting record of innovative research, appropriate to their career stage, and will seek to publish their work in high-profile outlets, as well as to build research collaborations and new initiatives. They will hold a PhD in a relevant area, or have equivalent relevant experience, and will have experience in supporting students and enabling them to thrive.
