Lecturer in the History of the Global South, Lancaster University
The Department of History at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in the History of the Global South. This is a full-time indefinite appointment to start 1 Sept 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department wishes to attract an innovative academic working on the history of the Global South. We will be particularly interested in people who specialise in one or more of: East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, or Latin America who can place an emphasis on the cultures and agency embedded in contexts of the colonial or post-colonial worlds. You should have an excellent profile in teaching and research as well as concrete plans for future projects and outputs.
You will have experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, preferably including the design and delivery of your own modules. It is likely that the successful candidate will be able to ‘phase in’ their teaching during the period 2022/3-2024/5.
You will be expected to have completed your PhD and show evidence that you will have a strong set of publications, including a monograph, available for the next Research Excellence Framework. You will also be expected to show a willingness and ability to develop research projects with the potential to attract funding from bodies such as the AHRC, ESRC and/or the Wellcome or Leverhulme Trusts. Plans for collaboratively engaging with departmental and/or faculty priorities in research and teaching would be an advantage. An ability to work with organisations outside academia is also desirable.
Decolonising the Curriculum is a major priority for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. You will be expected to play a major role in developing this agenda in both teaching and research within the History Department.
Application Deadline: 16 May 2022
