Lectureship in Early Modern or Modern History, The Barbara and Dietrich Schultz College

Magdalene College, Cambridge, seeks to appoint a College Lecturer in Early Modern or Modern History for a fixed-term of three years eleven months, starting on 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post would be particularly suitable for someone early in their academic career, and carries teaching, research and administrative duties and opportunities. The successful applicant will hold the PhD degree (or equivalent) and will already have a track record of publication. It is anticipated that the post-holder will be elected to an Official Fellowship for the duration of the post.

The post-holder will offer college undergraduate teaching (supervisions) in at least two of the History Tripos Part IA Outline papers from among the following: Early Modern Britain; Europe in the World, 1450-1780; Global Eighteenth Century; Modern Britain and Ireland, 1750-present; Twentieth-Century World. The post-holder will also be expected to arrange, and participate in, College teaching of general papers in historical methodology that are compulsory elements of the undergraduate course. Teaching will in the first instance be for Magdalene College students, but teaching may also be offered on the basis of exchange arrangements with other colleges. The post-holder will be expected to offer 160 hours of teaching across the academic year (an average of 8 hours per week during full term).
