SOAS wishes to appoint a Director of the London Middle East Institute and MBI Al Jaber Chair in Middle East Studies as soon as possible. The person appointed will split their time approximately 50/50 in carrying out activities as the Chair of the Middle East Studies and as the Director of the LMEI.
The successful applicant will carry out research and teach in their area of speciality and will provide strong leadership to the LMEI, developing and implementing a strategy to build on the strong foundations laid by the previous Director.
You will have specialist knowledge and an international reputation within any area of Contemporary Middle East Studies. The candidate will also be expected to demonstrate the ability to develop effective relationships with the wider academic community and potential funders in order to develop networks and initiatives in both London and the Middle East.

Successful candidate will be required to serve as Director for five years and this may be renewed at the end of this tenure.
