
The College of New Jersey - Assistant Professor - History and Philosophy (East Asia or Middle East)
The College of New Jersey seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in East Asian or Middle Eastern history. The position is based in the History Department, which will oversee research and service responsibilities. Two-thirds of the teaching duties will be in the History Department, and one-third will be in the Department of Philosophy, Religion, and Classical Studies.
We welcome applicants whose research focuses on any period or topic related to East Asian or Middle Eastern history. The successful candidate will contribute to all levels of the curriculum, offering courses for majors as well as for students fulfilling core requirements. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach a course or courses in the pre-modern era, before 1500 CE. An ability to teach historical methods is highly desirable.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong scholarly program and a commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship. We encourage applicants whose work supports the College’s mission in teaching, research, and service.
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. by August 25, 2026. A Ph.D. in history is preferred, but applicants with a Ph.D. in philosophy, religion, or area studies will be considered.
