The Newberry Library - Newberry Library Long-Term Fellowships
The Newberry Library invites applications for its next class of Long-Term Fellows. These residential fellowships support scholars pursuing significant works of research and writing in the humanities. Fellows spend four to nine months in residence at the Newberry with a stipend of $5,000 per month, immersed in our world-renowned collections and participating in our vibrant community of learning.
About the Fellowship
Long-Term Fellows pursue their own research while also sharing discoveries through presentations, seminars, and conversations with other scholars and library staff. Fellows are expected to make productive use of the Newberry’s collections and to reside in Chicago for the duration of their fellowship.
The program is designed to help scholars bring major projects of scholarship to the next stage—whether completing a manuscript, advancing a book project, or exploring new directions of inquiry. Applications that demonstrate strong and meaningful use of the Newberry’s collections are especially encouraged.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated according to three primary criteria:
Significance of the proposed project
The applicant’s ability to complete the proposed project
The appropriateness of the project to the Newberry’s collections
Eligibility
Long-Term Fellowships are open to scholars at all career stages and to researchers working in any area of the humanities. Applicants must demonstrate a clear plan for using the Newberry’s resources. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. at the time of application.
