
University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign - Assistant Professor, Asian American Studies
The Department of Asian American Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor with particular research and teaching in cultural studies, literature, history, or other allied humanities-driven fields. Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the department, the university and the profession.
We seek an interdisciplinary scholar trained in the humanities or social science disciplines or multidisciplinary programs whose research includes at least one of the following areas: law and society, immigration, politics and activism, anti-Asian racism and violence, mental health and well-being, environmental studies and justice, gender and sexuality, and indigeneity and coloniality.

Widely recognized for its standing in race, gender and sexuality, religion and migration, social movements, transnational and transoceanic crossings, race and empire, racial capitalism, and critical refugee studies, our research-intensive department includes faculty with strong commitments to interdisciplinary fields both within and beyond the department.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the humanities, social sciences, interdisciplinary, or other related fields to Asian American studies, and is required before the starting date of employment, have a promising research agenda and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
The anticipated starting date is August 16, 2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $80,000-$90,000 for a 9-month service basis. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs. It is not typical for a beginning Assistant Professor to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for the position.
