Western Washington University - One-year Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Medieval Europe
Western Washington University invites applications for a One-year Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Medieval European History beginning on September 16, 2026 through June 15, 2027. The successful candidate will teach seven five-credit in-person courses over three quarters, including three sections of two lower-division surveys and four upper-division courses in the candidate's specialty. No service is required during the term of the appointment.
Required Qualifications: PhD or advanced ABD in History or related field with a specialization in Medieval history and the ability to teach “Introduction to Western Civilization: 476-1713” (HIST 112), and upper-division courses in Medieval European history from WWU’s catalog and/or in the candidate’s area of specialization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. preferred
Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and high-quality scholarship
Ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues
Required Application Materials: A letter of application along with a c.v., a graduate transcript, a chapter- or article-length writing sample, sample syllabi for an introductory course in Western Civ from 476-1713 as well as an upper-level course, and the contact information for three referees. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience; benefits eligible. The salary range is $5890-$6620 per course ($41,230-$46,340 for seven courses), based on degree status and relevant teaching experience. The individual will be hired at the Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor level, depending on the degree completed. The successful candidate would be eligible for benefits, including some support to present at a conference. Relocation costs are negotiable.
